WHAT IS A NERDFIGHTER ANYWAY?
this is a question that I love to answer, so thanks for giving me an opportunity to.
A nerdfighter, in the most basic sense, is someone who both enjoys the content of John and Hank Green’s youtube channel, Vlogbrothers and identifies with the ideas values that they, along with their online community, have propagated over the five years in which they have been a part of the internet. These values include the idea that traits commonly regarded as “nerdy”, such as love of knowledge, respect for intellect, and eagerness to show enthusiasm for things, are not negative traits but instead things to strive for.
Apart from being the audience of John and Hank’s videos, the Nerdfighter community often creates and participates in events with the goal to “reduce worldsuck” (a phrase among many coined by the brothers and their viewers in their inaugural year-long Brotherhood 2.0 project), including the annual YouTube Project For Awesome, a community-based day-long charity drive created in 2007 that raised over $100,000 for charities of all shapes and sizes just last year.
As is common in large internet communities full of young people, the Nerdfighter community is chock full of memetic in-jokes derived from the adventures and exploits and of the Green brothers, including the name of the community itself, which was coined unwittingly by John after misreading the text on an AERO FIGHTERS arcade machine and later adopted as a demonym by the brothers and the community. The community’s official unofficial slogan, “Don’t Forget To Be Awesome”, another Brotherhood 2.0 coinage initialized as “DFTBA”, reminds nerdfighters to strive to be excellent as often as possible.
It’s an easy community to get lost in, especially with the frequency of in-jokes, but one of the main ideas boasted by the community is that nerdfighters are not in an exclusive club — because of the values and philosophies it is based on, the nerdfighter community is all-inclusive, and as the Green brothers have said many times, “if you want to be a nerdfighter… you already are.”
hope that answers your question. :)

This is a really good response to a question I am frequently asked and can never answer.

This is but one side of me… thanks for defining it so brilliantly!

Hello!

So…my URL is in tribute to two things I love most… Harry Potter (talking about Dumbledore- “He’ll never be gone, not so long as those here remain loyal to him”) and the broadway and west end hit musical Wicked (“Because I knew you, I have been changed for good”).  So yeah, just incase you were wondering!  I’m a huge fan of Harry Potter, and have been forever.  And theatre is my life! ( No, literally, you think I’m joking, that’s my concentration at university).

Having said that… WELCOME, one and all!  This will be a positive place for people to talk nerdy!  Pretty much Anything Goes!  I like to read, write, watch gamers(I stink at playing), youtube, theatre, Doctor Who… Just ask!  No negativity, PLEASE!  If I see someone being uncommonly nasty, there will be punishments!!!
